READ Posters Unveiling

The wait is finally over! For all those who voted for your favorite faculty or staff member to be on a READ poster, the results are in! Next Thursday, June 2, at 7:00PM Courtright Memorial Library will host the unveiling of four new READ posters featuring the four favorite Otterbein celebrities chosen by you. Joan Rocks, Rebecca Morrison, Karen Volpe and Tammy Birk will now have their own READ posters on permanent display at the library. Join us for the celebration. Come and support your favorites!

Oral Histories from the 1970 Kent State Shootings

Here is part of the press release from OhioLINK:

Columbus, Ohio (May 25, 2005) – Many articles, books and even
documentaries have been written about the shootings that occurred at Kent State
University on May 4, 1970. Now researchers from around the world can learn about
the event firsthand by listening to eyewitnesses. oral histories online through
the OhioLINK Digital Media Center at http://worlddmc.ohiolink.edu/History/Login.

The Kent State Shootings Oral Histories collection contains audio files
of 69 oral histories including many eyewitness accounts of the event and its
aftermath, contributed by people who were students, faculty members, and City of
Kent residents at the time, as well as an account by an Ohio National Guardsman.
The oral histories are now freely available online as part of the OhioLINK
Digital Media Center’s Historic & Archival Digital Media database.

The May 4 Oral History Project was started in 1990 to preserve personal
histories of and individual reactions to the shootings on the Kent State
University campus in 1970. The collection is maintained and was contributed to
the OhioLINK Digital Media Center by the Department of Special Collections and
Archives, Libraries and Media Services at Kent State University.

READ Poster Winners!

The library is proud to announce the winners of the READ poster contest. You voted for your favorite Otterbein faculty and staff members to appear on READ posters in the library, alongside the famous figures already claiming space among the stacks. After counting all your online and ballet votes, the top four choices include: Rebecca Morrison, Production Manager of the Theatre & Dance Department; Karen Volpe, Academic Administrative Assistant of the Art Department; Joan Rocks, Assistance Professor, Chair and Athletic Training Program Director of the Health & Physical Education Department; and Tammy Birk, Visiting Instructor of the English Department. The posters will be displayed before the quarter ends and will be unveiled at a library on a future date. Be sure to look for the announcement and come to the unveiling ceremony!
