Alumni Book Club

Alumni from classes '61-'04 are encouraged to join in Otterbein's newly formed Alumni Book Club to share "books and beans" with past classmates. Participants will meet at the Otter Bean Cafe located in Courtright Memorial Library the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are open to faculty, staff, students and friends of Otterbein who have a shared interest in reading and discussion. New JSTOR Search Engine

The new and improved JSTOR search engine is now available. This database can be found from Otterbein library's webpage under ejournals. JSTOR allows users to access archives of scholarly journals, beginning with the very first issue of each title. Although there is a gap between a journal's most recent publication and the last issue available on JSTOR, users are guaranteed authentic page images in order to provide a faithful replication of the original print journals. The improvements made to the search engine allow for a faster searching and the ability to search all disciplines at once without having to select each discipline individually. Ellison in the Library

Otterbein is now offering free use of Ellison machines in the basement of the library. These machines are considered die-cutting machines which act as cookie cutters on a variety of materials. Ellison machines are commonly used to create borders and decorate bulletin boards for displays. Some of the material that Ellison machines can cut through include sheet magnet, foil, fabric, felt, sponge, leather and thin metal. Although Otterbein allows the use of these machines for free, materials are not provided. Paper and other materials can be purchased at Michael's, JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby and speciality materials can be bought on www.ellison.com. The library welcomes all faculty, students and staff to take advantage of these machines.

Lois Raimondo books in the library

The photojournalist Lois Raimondo, who covered the war in Afghanistan amongst the Northern Alliance forces will be on campus from February 7th to March 4th, as the Vernon Pack Scholar in Residence. Her photography is currently on display in the Fischer Gallery of Roush Hall until March 11th.

In conjunction with her visit, the library has made some books that feature her work available on a first floor display. You can check out the books for 21 days or you can browse the books to see other images captured by Lois Raimondo. Also, she is interviewed in the book, The Media and the War on Terrorism, which relates to this year's common book.

Chat Service from Librarians is now 24 Hours a Day

Now you can chat late in the night with librarians from Ohio. The OhioLINK chat reference service, which supports Otterbein, will refer you to the 24 hour statewide KnowItNow when the last OhioLINK librarian closes our chat service for the night.

KnowItNow serves all of Ohio and is funded by the State Library of Ohio. These 61 'After Dark' librarians are experienced, professional librarians from the Cleveland area. They will have access to some Otterbein library resources and they will know that you have been referred from the OhioLINK chat site.
